Habitat for Humanity Project

The 11th and 12th grade students in the Construction Academy have started work on a House Building project with Habitat for Humanity.  The students in these programs are constructing one of the two, two bedroom homes being built on the Hamilton site.  Arboriculture, Masonry, Landscape, Carpentry students have started work.  Once the house is weather tight the Electrical, Plumbing,  and HVAC programs will begin their work.  The project is due for completion November 2017.

The construction academy students in Arboriculture cleared the land and removed trees.

Masonry and Landscape Construction 12 Class have been working at the site.  The students have removed the forms on the foundation, applied tar to the foundation, and installed the insulation to the inside of the foundation.  Upon completion of the deck by Carpentry, Masonry will return to the site to pour the slab.

Carpentry has worked at the site to prepare to begin building the deck as soon as the foundation is backfilled.  They have pre-fabbed the window and door frames in the shop and will transport these to the jobsite when needed.

The outside instructors have met with the Habitat for Humanity Project Manager, Hers Rater and Habitat’s Coordinator at Essex Tech to go over plans and create a timeline for completion of the project.  The dedication of the home is scheduled for November 2017.
